I took my mom up to Chicago for a business/pleasure trip. The Merchandise Mart was having their Annual Handmade Vendor show. Not only was the show amazing, but the number of talented, creative individuals was mind blowing! We saw retired teachers that made jewelry from pencils, woodworkers, jewelry designers, custom sandals made to fit you on the spot... the list could go on and on. If you've never been, you should definitely try to make it up there next year!
Back to the point of this post... while I was away, my husband was in charge of the 2 boys. They love having a boys night, so I wasn't really worried about leaving them. However, when I got home on Saturday, a snow globe had been broken, my oldest son had a loose tooth and was wearing his brothers pants, and the youngest got the stomach flu!
I'm not sure all "normal" moms are as germ-a-phob as I am, but I make my kids wash their hands as soon as we get home from anywhere. And I've been known to NOT take my kids somewhere in fear of them catching something. I don't think those thoughts ever cross my husband's mind because he took them to McDonalds Playland for lunch!
Sometimes a night away isn't worth it, but this night away was definitely worth it! Something us "normal" moms forget - it's important to get away every once in awhile! Yes, you'll miss the kids and yes, they won't be taken care of the way you take care of them, but they will survive (and even have fun!) and it gives you new energy to face the whirlwind of challenges, we call LIFE!
